Alexander McQueen at The Met

Today, you get to meet Andrea, one of the new staff members at Alta Moda.

A few weeks ago, I was privileged to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  While there, I attended the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit. The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, celebrates the late Alexander McQueen’s extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his Central Saint Martins postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation, which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity.

His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion. The exhibition features approximately one hundred ensembles and seventy accessories from Mr. McQueen’s prolific nineteen-year career. The exhibit was especially designed for the many extraordinary pieces done by McQueen down, to specially made mannequins, to videos on the ceiling, to hidden fans pointed on certain pieces to show the movement of the flowing fabric. This exhibit definitely gives you a glimpse into McQueen’s dark and twisted fantasies and how he made them come to life in such a breath-taking, extraordinary way.  If you have the opportunity to visit the museum this is a must see.
